Applied NanoFluorescence: Staff

Dr. R. Bruce Weisman is the Founder and President of Applied NanoFluorescence, LLC. He received a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from Johns Hopkins University, a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Chicago, and has served on the faculty of Rice University in Houston since 1979. Dr. Weisman is internationally recognized for his contributions to the spectroscopy and photophysics of carbon nanostructures. In 2002, he led the research project that successfully assigned the near-infrared fluorescence transitions of carbon nanotubes to specific structural forms. Prof. Weisman is Vice Chair of the Fullerenes, Nanotubes, and Carbon Nanostructures Division of the Electrochemical Society and a Co-editor of the journal Applied Physics A. He has served on the IEEE Standards Group for Carbon Nanotube Properties (2004) and is currently a U.S. Technical Expert advising ISO Working Group 229 on Carbon Nanotube Characterization.

Dr. Sergei M. Bachilo is the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) of Applied NanoFluorescence. He has many years of experience in laser spectroscopy, time-resolved spectroscopy, as well as the design and optimization of optical instrumentation. Dr. Bachilo received a Bachelor's degree in Optics and Spectroscopy from the Belarussian State University, and a Doctoral degree in Physics and Mathematics from the Institute of Physics, Belarus Academy of Sciences. Working at Rice University in 2001, he made the seminal discovery of near-infrared fluorescence from single-walled carbon nanotubes. Dr. Bachilo has published more than 80 scientific papers and remains an internationally recognized authority on nanotube spectroscopy.

Dr. Tonya Cherukuri is the Vice President Applied NanoFluorescence.  She earned a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from Rice University in 2008 where her work focused on photophysical properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes.  Following her doctoral research, Dr. Cherukuri was awarded a National Academy fellowship to conduct carbon nanotube research in the Material Research Directorate at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Prior to joining ANF in 2014, she was as a pharmaceutical R&D scientist where she developed new consumer healthcare drug products.
